The best data tokenization tools for 2026: 1. Enigma Vault, 2. Skyflow, 3. Protegrity, 4. Thales CipherTrust Tokenization, 5. Fortanix Data Security Manager, 6. Protecto, and 7. K2view.
Choosing a data tokenization tool starts with one question: does a vault keep the original value, or does a vaultless design rebuild it from a key? That choice decides speed, analytics, deployment, and who you have to trust.
Running it yourself has a cost: a Protegrity reviewer on G2 cites a single-year license above $15,000, and a Thales reviewer lists implementation complexity and token management.
Enigma Vault leads this list because it runs the vault for you: Data, Card, and File Vault keep fields, cards, and files in one managed vault, and NoPII tokenizes PII before it reaches the model provider. It is PCI DSS Level 1 and SOC 2 Type II, rated 4.4/5 on G2 and 4.8/5 on Capterra, with a free Lite plan.
Other strong options are:
- Skyflow: Built for vaulted tokenization with regional vaults for data residency (G2 rating 5.0 from 1 review, Payments vault).
- Protegrity: Best for vaultless tokens computed across data and analytics platforms (G2 rating 4.5 from 14 reviews).
- Thales CipherTrust Tokenization: Best suited for running vaulted and vaultless modes on your own infrastructure (G2 rating 4.0 from 6 reviews).
- Fortanix Data Security Manager: Known for vaultless tokens next to HSM-backed key management (G2 rating 4.5 from 2 reviews).
- Protecto: Offers a vaulted privacy layer for agents and RAG pipelines (no G2 or Capterra reviews yet).
- K2view: A fit for entity-based micro-vaults kept consistent across many source systems (G2 rating 4.6 from 55 reviews, for its overall data platform).

Vaulted vs Vaultless Tokenization
Every platform in this list answers one question first: where does the original value go after it is tokenized? The PCI Security Standards Council’s Tokenization Product Security Guidelines (April 2015) name the two answers.
How Vaulted Tokenization Works
The original is encrypted and stored in a vault, and your systems get a random token back. The PCI SSC calls these reversible non-cryptographic tokens.
A stolen token reveals nothing. To get the original, a caller must ask the vault, so the vault’s access rules and logs decide who sees what.
How Vaultless Tokenization Works Without a Vault
Nothing is stored. A secret key, usually through format-preserving encryption, turns the value into a token and turns it back; the PCI SSC calls these reversible cryptographic tokens.
| Factor | Vaulted | Vaultless |
|---|---|---|
| Who can reverse a token | Only callers the vault authorizes; Enigma Vault uses scoped OAuth2 credentials and RBAC | Any system or person holding the key |
| Revoking one user’s access | Remove their credential or role at the vault | Withdraw key access; a copied key cannot be recalled |
| Deleting one record (right to erasure) | Delete the vault entry and every token copy goes dead; Enigma Vault expires records from 60 seconds to 7 years | No original to delete; each token copy must be found and removed |
| Rotating keys | Stored values are re-encrypted; tokens stay the same. Enigma Vault rotates per-customer AES-256 keys on schedule | New key, new tokens: re-tokenize stored data or keep the old key |
| Evidence per reveal for auditors | One log at the vault; Enigma Vault records client ID, IP, path, and status per request | Spread across the key service and every app running the algorithm |
| Blast radius of one leak | What the leaked credential may reveal | Every token made under that key, in every system |
| Compliance scope | Originals and detokenization sit with the vault | Every system that holds the key or runs detokenization |
| Team effort and cost | API integration; vendor runs the vault. Enigma Vault starts at $0, then $49.99 a month per vault | License fees plus staff and an HSM or key service |
| Scaling across regions | Regional vaults keep originals in-region; each region is one more vault | No store to replicate; the key must be available and protected in every region |
When each fits: choose a vault when you want one audited place for reveals, deletion that kills a token for good, and no key program to run. Choose vaultless when per-value network calls are too slow for your volume and your team can operate keys well.

The 7 Best Data Tokenization Tools in 2026
1. Enigma Vault: Best for One Managed Vault Covering Cards, Fields, Files, and AI Prompts
- Token model
- Vaulted, random by default, deterministic on request
- Starting price
- $0, then $49.99 a month per vault
- Deployment
- Managed cloud, EU and US regions
- Who it suits
- Product and engineering teams that want SSNs, account numbers, cards, documents, and AI prompt data out of their own systems without running key infrastructure, and want to price it before talking to sales.
Enigma Vault is a vaulted tokenization platform delivered as APIs and a proxy. Data Vault holds structured secrets, Card Vault holds cards, and File Vault holds documents up to 5 GB.
Customer Vault adds a no-code intake app, and NoPII tokenizes PII in LLM traffic. All of them share one vault, one key model, and one audit trail.
Token Model and How It Works
Vaulted. Default tokens are random, 128-bit values with no structure to reverse, and the mapping lives only in the vault. Each stored value is encrypted with per-customer AES-256 keys that rotate on schedule.
Speed and Scale
- Batching: Data Vault tokenizes up to 5,000 secrets per request.
- Availability: The platform page states a 99.99% uptime SLA; SLA guarantees are part of the Enterprise plan.
- Streaming prompts: NoPII replaces tokens as response chunks arrive, which its page says keeps latency impact minimal.
- Per-call latency: Not published.
Analytics Support
Deterministic tokens are available on request, so the same value maps to the same token and joins and dedup still work. Data Vault also finds exact matches on encrypted values. Card tokens can be format-preserving and Luhn-passable, keeping first six and last four.
Deployment Options
A managed, per-tenant service hosted in EU and US regions, procured and billed directly or through AWS Marketplace on your existing AWS account; Enterprise adds dedicated infrastructure. Self-hosted or air-gapped: Not published.
Apps integrate through a versioned REST API with OAuth2 credentials (no SDK required), cards come in through hosted or iframe forms and leave through a gateway proxy, and NoPII sits in front of LLM APIs as a proxy you reach by pointing your existing SDK at its base URL.
Detokenization Controls
Scoped OAuth2 credentials, role-based access, and opt-in IP allowlisting decide who can reveal. Every API request is logged with client ID, IP, and response status, and token expiry runs from 60 seconds to seven years.
Pricing
| Plan | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Lite | $0 (free plan) | Data Vault 1,500 requests ($0.06 overage); Card Vault 1,000 ($0.08); File Vault 5 GB |
| Plus | $49.99 a month per vault | Data Vault 30,000 requests ($0.03); Card Vault 20,000 ($0.04); File Vault 150 GB; email support |
| Premium | $249.99 a month per vault | Data Vault 400,000 requests ($0.01); Card Vault 250,000 ($0.02); File Vault 1 TB; priority support |
| NoPII Free and Pro | $0 and $50 a month | 1M protected tokens a month free; Pro includes 50M, then $1 per additional million |
| Enterprise | Custom quote | Custom volume, dedicated infrastructure, and a BAA for healthcare |
Pros
- One vault for every data shape: Fields, cards, files, and prompt data share keys and one audit format, which shortens security reviews.
- Keys stay off your plate: Per-customer keys sit in a managed secrets store and roll over without engineer handling.
- A price you can model today: Published Lite, Plus, and Premium tiers let you cost a proof of concept before any sales call.
Cons
- Managed regions only: Teams that must run every component on their own hardware should look at the self-run options below.
- Prompt detection covers recognized PII only: Unrecognized PII can pass through NoPII, so test detection on your own data.
- ISO 27001 still in progress: PCI DSS Level 1 and SOC 2 Type II are in place; some procurement teams require ISO 27001 today.
Review Summary: Very positive, from a small sample. Enigma Vault holds 4.4/5 from 6 reviews on G2 and 4.8/5 from 4 on Capterra.
Likes: One G2 reviewer calls the API “simplistic and easy to understand,” and one values a single vendor handling card data, personal information, and multi-GB files; a CEO reviewer says support added their domestic card type and languages in under 24 hours.
Dislikes: One reviewer asks for more flexible reporting dashboards, one finds pricing a bit high, and one wants more documentation.
- Token model
- Vaulted, with per-column token formats
- Starting price
- Custom quote
- Deployment
- SaaS, dedicated VPC, or your own AWS or GCP account
- Who it suits
- Enterprises with customer data in several jurisdictions that want regional vaults, warehouse integrations, and AI agent governance from one vendor.
Skyflow is a data privacy vault service that detects and tokenizes sensitive values in databases, documents, and analytics platforms. Its homepage now leads with AI agents and describes data residency “without adding instances.”
Token Model and How It Works
Vaulted. Originals sit in a Skyflow vault, and each column is configured with its own token type. Its security page says each workspace and vault gets its own network security zone.
Speed and Scale
- Batching: Its performance guide says requests default to 25 records per call, and the limit is configurable.
- Latency and throughput: Not published.
- Resilience: Its security page says services run in an AWS multi-availability-zone setup, with cross-region backups.
Analytics Support
Per column, tokens can be UUID or format-preserving, each deterministic or random, plus transient and email-domain formats. Column groups give the same deterministic token for the same value across tables.
Deployment Options
Three models, per its docs: multi-tenant SaaS (the default), Virtual Private Skyflow in a dedicated VPC that Skyflow manages, or Bring Your Own Cloud, where Skyflow runs inside your AWS or GCP account. Regional vaults keep sensitive values in-region while the central application holds tokens.
Apps connect through Skyflow APIs and client-side SDKs, with AWS PrivateLink, GCP Private Service Connect, VPN, or hybrid links for on-premises systems. A fully on-premises or air-gapped install: Not published.
Detokenization Controls
A built-in policy-based access control system governs vault access, and detailed audit logging tracks security-sensitive events. Transient tokens expire, and expired tokens can no longer be detokenized.
Pricing
| Plan | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| All plans | Custom quote | No public pricing page; the site offers demo and contact-sales only |
Pros
- Residency is the core design: Regional vaults let one application serve EU, Asian, and US customers without copying originals across borders.
- Full certification set: Its security page lists ISO 27001:2022, SOC 2 Type II, PCI DSS Level 1, and HIPAA assessment.
- Enterprise connectors: Its site lists Snowflake, Databricks, ServiceNow, HubSpot, and Glean among integrations.
Cons
- Deterministic tokens need resync: Its docs note the token changes when the value changes, so stored tokens must be refreshed.
- Column groups need matching settings: Every column in a group must share several tokenization options, which constrains schema design.
- No public price: Budgeting needs a sales conversation.
Review Summary: Too few to judge. The Skyflow Payments Data Privacy Vault holds 5.0/5 from a single G2 review; Skyflow’s PII Data Privacy Vault has no G2 reviews, and we found no Capterra listing.
Likes: The one reviewer says the vault stopped one client’s payment data being mixed with another’s and removed manual checks.
Dislikes: The single review raises no dislikes, so there is nothing to weigh yet.
3. Protegrity: Best for Vaultless Protection Across Data and Analytics Platforms
- Token model
- Vaultless, deterministic, format-preserving
- Starting price
- Free Developer Edition; paid editions quoted
- Deployment
- SaaS, cloud, or on-premises
- Who it suits
- Data and security teams protecting the same fields across warehouses, lakehouses, and applications that want tokens computed in place with no central lookup.
Protegrity is a data protection platform whose protectors run inside applications, clouds, and data stores through native integrations, proxies, or SDKs, all under one central policy.
Token Model and How It Works
Vaultless. Its page says tokens are generated “using a deterministic algorithm based on the original data and a secret key,” so there is no token vault to manage or synchronize.
Speed and Scale
- Design claim: The page says removing real-time checks to a central vault reduces run-time overhead.
- Latency and throughput figures: Not published.
Analytics Support
Deterministic and format-preserving by design, and the page says referential integrity holds when values are restored. Documented Databricks Unity Catalog and Snowflake integrations let analysts work on tokens directly.
Deployment Options
Its page describes one policy across SaaS, cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments, offered in Developer, AI Team, and Enterprise editions. Protection is applied through enforcement points: native integrations (such as Databricks and Snowflake), proxies, or SDKs.
Developers can try it through an API Playground with an API access key. Specific clouds, regions, marketplace listings, and air-gapped support: Not published on the tokenization page.
Detokenization Controls
Originals are restored only under policies set by role, region, or data type, which the page says are centrally enforced and audited across systems.
Pricing
| Plan | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Developer Edition | Free | Build and test environment |
| AI Team Edition | Custom quote | Protection for AI and analytics pipelines |
| Enterprise Edition | Custom quote | Field-level protection, policy orchestration, high throughput |
Pros
- Suited to analytics at volume: Computing tokens in place avoids a network round trip per value on large tables.
- Free place to start: The Developer Edition lets engineers test protectors and token formats before any contract.
- Reviewers confirm scale: One G2 reviewer calls its vaultless tokenization easily scalable on-premises and in public cloud.
Cons
- Key custody becomes your risk: With no vault, protecting the secret key protects every token, so key operations need mature processes.
- No certifications on the product page: The page cites support for PCI DSS, HIPAA, and GDPR, so request audit reports directly.
- Price and integrations questioned: Two reviewers call the price high, one citing a single-year license above $15,000.
Review Summary: Positive. Protegrity holds 4.5/5 from 14 reviews on G2.
Likes: G2’s summary says users praise its data protection and ease of use; one reviewer describes “world class support” and notes deterministic tokens make matching for analytics easier.
Dislikes: G2’s summary says integration options could be more extensive (one reviewer says only popular ones such as AWS are covered); two reviewers call the price high, and two criticize support.
4. Thales CipherTrust Tokenization: Best for Vaulted and Vaultless Modes on Your Own Infrastructure
- Token model
- Vaulted and vaultless, alone or combined
- Starting price
- Custom quote
- Deployment
- Self-run, on-premises or public cloud
- Who it suits
- Large enterprises with existing Thales key management that want to pick vaulted or vaultless per workload and run both inside their own estate.
Thales CipherTrust Tokenization is part of the CipherTrust data security family. It plugs in through native column-level protection, an application SDK, or a RESTful service.
Token Model and How It Works
Hybrid. Its product page says vaulted and vaultless options “can be used independently or in conjunction with data masking or redaction.” In vaulted mode, the vault runs on MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL, or Cassandra that your team operates.
Speed and Scale
- Throughput: Its specifications cite more than 1 million card-size vaultless tokenizations a second per token server, using batch mode on a 32-core server; per-call latency is Not published.
- Operations: Thales states admins can replace a cipher in under a minute through central management.
- Reviewer view: One G2 reviewer notes the extra processing time each request takes.
Analytics Support
Format-preserving, random, and masked token formats; the page says format-preserving tokens avoid database schema changes. Whether tokens are deterministic for joins: Not published.
Deployment Options
Self-run: vaultless token servers ship as OVA or ISO images, Hyper-V VHD, an Amazon Machine Image, an Azure Marketplace image, or on Google Cloud Platform (minimum 4 cores and 16 GB RAM), with CipherTrust Manager as the key source and an optional FIPS 140-2 Level 3 root of trust.
Apps integrate through native column-level protection, an application SDK, or RESTful APIs (vaulted mode adds Java and .NET), and Thales states cloud providers never have access to token vaults or keys.
Detokenization Controls
LDAP or Active Directory groups decide who sees full values, partial masks, or tokens only. Audit logging for reveals: Not published on the tokenization page.
Pricing
| Plan | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| All deployments | Custom quote | Demo and contact-sales only on the product page |
Pros
- Model choice per workload: Teams avoid committing their whole estate to one tokenization design.
- Schema-friendly tokens: Format-preserving output lets legacy databases accept tokens without column changes.
- Fits an existing Thales estate: Organizations already on CipherTrust Manager add tokenization without a new key vendor.
Cons
- You run the vault database: Vaulted mode depends on a database your team operates and scales.
- Complexity noted by users: One G2 reviewer cites implementation complexity, token management, and cost.
- Fields only: The tokenization page covers database and application fields, with no files or prompts.
Review Summary: Mixed to positive. Thales CipherTrust Tokenization holds 4.0/5 from 6 reviews on G2. G2’s summary lists Ease of Use (1) and Expensive (1).
Likes: Reviewers like the data protection and the on-premises or cloud consoles.
Dislikes: One calls it expensive for small businesses, one lists implementation complexity, token management, cost, dependency on Thales, and limited compatibility, and one notes extra processing time per request.
5. Fortanix Data Security Manager: Best for Vaultless Tokens Next to HSM-Backed Key Management

- Who it suits
- AI and data teams feeding LLMs, agents, and RAG systems with customer records that need on-premises or air-gapped options.
Protecto is a data privacy vault focused on AI. It detects 200+ PII and PHI entity types in 50+ languages, so models and agents work with context while raw values stay behind role-based unmasking.
Token Model and How It Works
Vaulted. Detected values are replaced with tokens and the originals kept in its vault. It offers entropy-based tokens for security, format-preserving tokens for databases, and context-preserving tokens for AI.
Speed and Scale
- Token generation: The page labels real-time token generation “Sub-sec,” with no per-request figure.
- Volume: It cites 13M documents processed a day and a bulk API for migrations of billions of rows.
- Rate limits: Vary by namespace and tier; Not published.
Analytics Support
The same input gives the same token within a namespace, so records stay linkable. Structured fields get fixed-length, format-preserving tokens. Its docs list string-only inputs.
Deployment Options
Protecto supports SaaS, on-premises, and air-gapped deployment, and its page offers the on-premises and air-gapped options for regulated industries. It runs in real time or asynchronously.
Teams connect it to the data sources or AI pipelines where sensitive data flows through its APIs, including a bulk API for data lake migrations, and it masks before the prompt and unmasks in the response for authorized users. Specific clouds, regions, and marketplace listings: Not published.
Detokenization Controls
Authorized users unmask role by role, and every scan, mask, and unmask event is logged. It lists Active Directory, Okta, and SSO for identity.
Pricing

Review Summary: No reviews yet on G2 or Capterra, so ask for customer references during evaluation.
7. K2view: Best for Entity-Based Tokens Kept Consistent Across Many Source Systems
- Token model
- Entity-based: one encrypted micro-vault per customer or patient
- Starting price
- Custom quote; product tour
- Deployment
- On-premises, cloud, or hybrid
- Who it suits
- Enterprises with one customer spread across dozens of systems that need tokens to stay referentially intact everywhere that customer appears.
K2view is a data management platform that stores each business entity, such as a customer or patient, in its own Micro-Database, and pulls fresh data from many source systems as it arrives.
Token Model and How It Works
Entity-based. Each Micro-Database “serves as an individually encrypted and compressed ‘micro’ token vault,” so no single store holds every original. Data is encrypted with AES-256, and BYOK is supported.
Speed and Scale
- Latency and throughput figures: Not published; the page claims low latency at high request volume, and high-performance token servers, without numbers.
- Scale example: The page describes 10 million customers held in 10 million micro-vaults, as an illustration.
Analytics Support
Format-preserving tokens, and the page says the business entity approach keeps referential integrity across all systems, which suits test and analytics copies.
Deployment Options
On-premises, cloud, or hybrid, as a software-only implementation that the page says rolls out in weeks. Token servers generate tokens and re-identify originals, while the platform ingests from any number of source systems with no impact on them.
Integration runs through APIs that plug into CI/CD pipelines, plus a no-code GUI. Specific clouds, regions, and marketplace listings: Not published on the tokenization page.
Detokenization Controls
RBAC governs who can decrypt or detokenize, with LDAP for user management. Token rotation, time-to-live, and restore are listed. Audit logging for reveals: Not published on the tokenization page.
Pricing
| Plan | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Product tour | Free | Guided product tour and demo offered on the site |

| Thales CipherTrust Tokenization | Vaulted and vaultless, alone or combined | Vaultless: over 1 million tokenizations a second per token server (vendor benchmark); cipher swap in under a minute | Format-preserving, random, or masked; determinism Not published | Self-run on-premises (OVA, ISO, Hyper-V) or AWS, Azure, GCP |
| Fortanix DSM | Vaultless; NIST-approved format-preserving encryption | Not published; “cloud-scale” claim only | Format-preserving; determinism Not published | SaaS, or a physical or virtual appliance on-premises; AWS Marketplace |
| Protecto | Vaulted; entropy, format-preserving, or context-preserving tokens | “Sub-sec” generation; 13M documents a day; bulk API for billions of rows | Same token within a namespace; fixed-length format-preserving fields; strings only | SaaS, on-premises, air-gapped |
| K2view | Entity-based; one micro-vault per entity | Not published; low-latency claim without figures | Format-preserving; referential integrity across source systems | On-premises, cloud, hybrid; software-only |
Takeaway: for published speed figures, Thales (over 1 million vaultless tokenizations a second per server), Enigma Vault (5,000 per batch, 99.99% SLA), and Protecto (“Sub-sec”) lead; for analytics joins at volume, Protegrity and K2view keep referential integrity by design. For on-premises or air-gapped, look at Thales, Fortanix, and Protecto; for a vault inside your own cloud account, Skyflow BYOC; for a per-request audit trail with no keys to run, Enigma Vault.
How Each Vendor Describes Its Tokenization
Vendor pages use different words for similar designs. This table maps each one to the PCI SSC vocabulary, using only what the vendor states.
| Vendor and product | How they describe it | PCI SSC class | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enigma Vault | Random tokens; “the mapping lives only in the vault” | Reversible non-cryptographic | Vendor site |
| Skyflow | Data privacy vault with deterministic and format-preserving token columns | Reversible non-cryptographic | Vendor site |
| Protegrity | Vaultless tokens from a deterministic algorithm and secret key | Reversible cryptographic | Vendor site |
| Thales CipherTrust Tokenization | Vaulted and vaultless, with masking or redaction | Either, or hybrid | Vendor site |
| Fortanix DSM | Vault-less tokenization, also called format-preserving encryption | Reversible cryptographic | Vendor site |
| Protecto | Privacy vault with entropy-based, format-preserving, and context-preserving tokens | Reversible non-cryptographic | Vendor site |
| K2view | Per-entity encrypted micro token vaults | Reversible non-cryptographic, partitioned | Vendor site |

How to Choose a Data Tokenization Tool
Settle the vaulted or vaultless question first; the rest of the list narrows fast after that. Start by listing every place a sensitive value lands today, including logs, backups, file buckets, and AI prompts.
| Question | If yes, lean | Where it points |
|---|---|---|
| Do you want one place that enforces and logs every reveal? | Vaulted | Enigma Vault, Skyflow, Protecto |
| Does your team lack a key management program? | Vaulted, managed | Enigma Vault, Skyflow |
| Are per-value network calls too slow for your batch or warehouse volume? | Vaultless | Protegrity, Fortanix, Thales vaultless mode |
| Must analysts join or count on tokenized fields? | Either, with deterministic tokens | Check scope: namespace, column group, or key |
| Do downstream columns and validators need tokens that look like the original? | Either, with format-preserving tokens | Ask for format-preserving output per field |
| Must every component run on your hardware, or air-gapped? | Self-run vault or vaultless | Thales, Fortanix, Protegrity, K2view, Protecto |
| Must originals stay in specific regions? | Vaulted with regional vaults | Skyflow; Enigma Vault for EU and US |
| Must deleting a record make its tokens dead for good? | Vaulted | Delete in the vault; vaultless needs key rotation |
| Does data flow into LLMs, agents, or RAG? | Vaulted with prompt support | Enigma Vault NoPII, Protecto, Skyflow |
| Can you price a full year today? | Published rates | Enigma Vault publishes plan rates; Fortanix lists hourly AWS Marketplace rates; others quote |
Tokenization reduces plaintext exposure; access control, key management, retention, and monitoring still matter. Where cards are involved, your QSA or acquirer confirms PCI scope; see the best PCI DSS compliant tokenization software.
Why Teams Choosing a Vaulted Model Pick Enigma Vault
Most teams comparing the tools above end up at the same whiteboard question: vaulted or vaultless. Vaultless keeps tokens in your own systems and leaves key management to you; vaulted moves the sensitive values out and asks you to trust the vault’s controls.
With Enigma Vault, the useful test is what happens later. A reveal is a permissioned call logged with client ID, IP, resource path, and status; a deletion request means removing one record from the vault; and expiry can be set from 60 seconds to 7 years.
Reviewers rate it 4.4/5 on G2 (6 reviews) and 4.8/5 on Capterra (4), and Data Vault and File Vault both include a free Lite plan.
Pick the first field you would tokenize and run it through the Lite plan; if vaultless is still on the table, bring both options to a demo and compare them side by side.
